Meeting with the World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region Annette Dixon

The Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received today the World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region, Annette Dixon in the Palace of Nation.

The sides discussed issues of expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation of Tajikistan with this influential financial institution.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with the World Bank for the last 23 years, especially World Bank’s support in various areas of Tajikistan, including energy, infrastructure, agriculture, social services and support for the state budget.

It was emphasized that for 23 years of cooperation the World Bank has provided more than one billion US dollars of preferential loans, grants and technical assistance to Tajikistan. Currently in Tajikistan is under implementation of the World Bank projects more than 350 million Dollars in various sectors of agriculture, transport, public administration, economic policy, water supply, private sector, health, education and social protection.

The head of state Emomali Rahmon has praised the World Bank's work in Tajikistan and stressed that each project implemented jointly with the World Bank is considered another important and timely step towards the country's sustainable development and improving people's well-being in a negative impact of external factors, including the impact of the global financial and economic crisis on the economy of Tajikistan.

A wide range of issues related to large financial and technical resources of the World Bank on elimination of consequences of natural disasters in Tajikistan and carrying out bank protection works in dangerous areas of our country were also discussed.
