President of Tajikistan

Excellency,

On behalf of all Canadians, I offer greetings to you and to the people of Tajikistan as you celebrate your country's Independence Day.

Over 26 years of diplomatic relations Canada and Tajikistan have successfully worked together in various multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations. Our countries also share a commitment to development and security, bolstered by Tajikistan’s efforts to foster both International and regional co-operation in these areas.

Several initiatives this year have strengthened our ties, notably the recent conference on the International Decade of Water, held in June. The themes discussed contributed substantially to the global dialogue on water and climate change, and are subjects of great impotence to Canada.

Canada looks forward to further co-operation with Tajikistan in the year ahead.

Please accept my warmest wishes on this day of national celebration."
