Meeting with the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Viacheslav Volodin

On the sidelines of his official visit to Russia, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a meeting with the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Viacheslav Volodin.

The current state and prospects of the Tajik – Russian inter-parliamentary relations were the subject of the discussion.

The importance of the strategic partnership between Tajikistan and Russia, interstate integration within the framework of the inter-chamber parliamentary commission on cooperation and the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) was emphasized and deemed an important link in the whole complex of Tajik – Russian relations.

The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the further expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, multifaceted cooperation between Tajik and Russian regions, attracting Russian investments in the economy of Tajikistan, strengthening bilateral relations in the field of science, technology, culture and information, as well as training highly qualified specialists in the sphere of science and education.

Constructive proposals were made for finding new ways of developing bilateral military and technical cooperation, strengthening Tajikistan’s defense capabilities, and regarding labor migration issues.

Issues relating to the current situation in the region and the world were also discussed. Special attention was paid to strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime.

At the end of the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon invited the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation to visit Tajikistan at any time convenient for him.
