Today, in the afternoon, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the heads of a number of states and official delegations arrived in Dushanbe to attend the Summit of Heads of SCO member states at the highest level.
The first meeting was held with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India, Sushma Swaraj, during which they discussed issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the two countries.
It was noted that 50 documents on cooperation in various fields have been signed to date between Tajikistan and India.
President Emomali Rahmon said that, despite the existence of a good treaty basis, cooperation between the two countries, including in the fields of trade, economy and investment, does not correspond to the available resources and opportunities.
Based on the experience of cooperation between Tajikistan and India in the field of hydropower, acquired in the process of modernization Varzob HPP-1, it was expressed confidence in further expansion of mutually beneficial relations in this field. It was noted that India may take part in the construction of new power plants in Tajikistan and in the future to adjust the supply of electricity from Tajikistan to India.
At the same time, the expansion of trade, economic, energy and transport cooperation between Tajikistan and India will be able to actively contribute to solving the problems of Afghanistan.
A constructive conversation on the development of cooperation in the fields of education, health, science and technology, defense, security and stability in the region has also taken place.
